Tryfan is arguably the most recognisable peak in Wales and possibly the UK. This view looking across the Ogwen valley displays the mountain at its best, with its soaring east face towering above the valley below. Even though Tryfan is one of the smallest of the Welsh three thousanders in height it more than makes up for in stature with its graceful north ridge rising out of the valley bottom to eventually gain the three peaked summit at over three thousand feet.
Tryfan is reputedly the only mountain in the UK where you have to use your hands to reach the summit and when you arrive there you are met by two huge monoliths, eight foot high and a metre apart. First ascenionist are expected to leap across the gap, easy at ground level but when you have an eight hundred foot precipice on one side its not so easy.
