Portmeirion (PR101)

by Rob Piercy

£140.00

Giclee print of an original watercolour.

Limited Edition of 200.

Clough Williams Ellis the eccentric creator of Portmeirion was, using the word in the nicest possible way, a narcissist. Narcissistic in that he wanted people to appreciate and understand architecture of all types, classical, gothic, art and craft etc etc and what better way of achieving this than by building your own unique village.

Because he was creating this village from scratch he was able to select a location which would allow him to 'show off' his creation to the very best effect. The location he chose was as it happened not far from his home, a wooded headland sheltered from the prevailing weather in an enclosed amphitheatre, but, more importantly it enabled him to place his premier league buildings high on a cliff overlooking the Dwyryd estuary, a sublime location. It shouts out "look at me". This was his stage.
