Prior to Thomas Telford building his new turnpike road from London to the Irish ferries at Holyhead, this would have been the only way to travel along Dyffryn Ogwen. I can imagine the artist William Turner riding his pony towards the village of Capel Curig after a long day travelling and sketching. It is now a pleasant 3 to 4 mile walk along the valley until you get to Llyn Ogwen. When I set off the weather was depressingly grey with cloud down to the valley bottom, usually this remains stubbornly all day, but eventually the cloud started to lift exposing the lower slopes of Penyrolewen at least.
