At the best of times the area to the right of the Devil's Kitchen at Cwm Idwal in Snowdonia is frighteningly intimidating, but when snow is clinging to the rock face it becomes even more so.
In the good old days when I was into rock climbing in a big way, one of my most enjoyable routes was the thin gully over to the right of the drawing. This climb was christened in climbing guidebooks as The Devil's Staircase.
